Free! Books!
For me, not for anyone else.
I subbed to Empire at the start of the year. It's something I've meant to do since my Empire-buying lodger left, but it became more important the last few months as I'm trying to see a decent movie every week.
In January Empire had an offer: subscribe to Empire for 6 or 12 months and get 4 free paperbacks. I caught the end of the deal, but subbed anyway not expecting to qualify. I'd got my first copy of Empire toward the start of the month with no indication of if the books would arrive.
Well, what do you know. After I got out of the shower this morning I heard the "shriiiift" of a card through the door. The parcel post had just abandoned try to contact me. I called him back (in my towel, pity the man) and now I have nice new copies of The Shipping News, Girl With a Pearl Earring, Master and Commander and Seabiscuit.
Ra! for free books, 'though I'm alarmed to see that Master and Commander is endorsed by Peter Hitchens.
